Lecce have officially announced the signing of two new defenders in Danilo Veiga and Tiago Gabriel on Tuesday afternoon, who could be the replacements for Patrick Dorgu, who is on the verge of agreeing a deal to join Manchester United.
Lecce announced a double deal on Tuesday afternoon, confirming the signing of Danilo Veiga and Tiago Gabriel, both from Estrela Amadora. It has been reported that Lecce paid around €1m each up front to sign the two Portuguese defenders, not including bonuses or add-ons.
Both are capable of covering a number of different roles in defence, including at both sides at full-back and as centre-halves.
Veiga will wear the no.17 shirt during his first season with Lecce, while Gabriel has chosen the no.44.
Lecce double deal clears path for Dorgu to Man United
Lecce’s January transfer window is not necessarily over just yet. Talks with Manchester United continue over a potential deal for Denmark international Patrick Dorgu.
Reports over the last few weeks suggest that Lecce have been seeking a fee of €40m to sell the versatile wideman in January, with Napoli and Juventus also reportedly interested in a deal during the summer transfer window.
According to reports on Tuesday morning, United were preparing to send an increased formal offer of around €37m for Dorgu, while Alfredo Pedulla reported on Tuesday afternoon that United are now close to sealing a deal for the Dane for a fee of just under the €40m mark.
