Spalletti offers suggestion to Thiago Motta: He must ‘know’ one thing

Italy coach Luciano Spalletti admits he ‘really liked’ Thiago Motta at Bologna but suggests to the Juventus coach that he has to ‘know when opponents figure you out.’

The Azzurri coach met Italian media at his home in Montaione, Tuscany, on Monday, talking about several matters related to Serie A and the national team.

As reported by Ilbianconero.com, Spalletti shared his thoughts on Juventus coach Motta as well.

“I watch matches and take notes on the back of the lineup sheet. New things, plays, details,” he said.

“I really liked Thiago Motta at Bologna; even there, he was changing players’ positions and gaining big advantages. It’s a relational style of football, focused on ball possession, that avoids wasting the ball even under pressure. But you have to be smart and know when opponents figure you out.”

Juventus currently sit fourth in the Serie A table with 49 points, two more than 5th-placed Lazio.

The Bianconeri’s next Serie A match is at home against Hellas Verona on March 3.

The Old Lady will meet Empoli in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals on Wednesday when Motta will be forced to do without five defenders.

Juventus have been eliminated from the Champions knockout playoffs at the hands of Dutch side PSV, suffering a 4-3 aggregate defeat.
