Player ratings: Milan 1-1 Inter – Vintage Calhanoglu, Promising Rossoneri

Mike Maignan, Youssouf Fofana, Tijjani Reijnders, Hakan Calhanoglu and Nicolo Barella were among the star performers as Milan and Inter ended level at 1-1 in the first leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final in San Siro.

Milan 1-1 Inter: Player ratings 

Milan: Maignan 7, Walker 6, Gabbia 6.5, Thiaw 6, T. Hernandez 5.5; Fofana 7, Reijnders 7; Jimenez 5, Pulisic 5.5, Leao 6.5; Abraham 7. 

Best Milan player: Maignan 7 – The Frenchman has come under scrutiny in recent weeks, with performances largely in decline this calendar year, but the Frenchman was there when his side needed him to be for the most part, pulling out important saves on Calhanoglu and Barella, keeping the scores at 1-0 for as long as possible. Strong performances overall from Tijjani Reijnders and Youssouf Fofana as well. 

Coach: Sergio Conceicao 6.5 – An interesting performance from the Rossoneri, who were better in the opening exchanges compared to many of their previous matches since Conceicao’s arrival in January. The positivity they showed in the second half of their 2-1 loss against Napoli continued, but ultimately, they were up against the league leaders, who were never going to make life easy. Still, Conceicao is still unbeaten in against Inter from his time with Milan: One win and two draws on the primato. 

Inter: J.Martinez 6; Bisseck 6.5, De Vrij 6, Bastoni 6.5; Darmian 6, Barella 7, Calhanoglu 7.5, Frattesi 5, C.Augusto 6; Thuram 5.5, Correa 6.5.

Best Inter player: Calhanoglu 7.5 – An excellent display from the base of midfield for the Nerazzurri general. Almost hit a trademark free-kick past Maignan in the first-half, which had the Frenchman troubled with its swerve. Capped off a fine performance with a wonderful strike from 25 yards out, rocketed past Maignan to grab a crucial equaliser, which also ensured that Inter have now scored in a primato 15 consecutive matches against Milan. 

Coach: Simone Inzaghi 6.5 – All things considered, at this stage of the season, with so many different commitments and with several injury and fitness concerns, it was still a decent Inter display, which is impressive in itself. Consistent. Milan had their chances, but the Nerazzurri looked in control after their equaliser.
