Cassano: Even Di Matteo and Mourinho won Coppa Campioni, Inter season still a ‘failure’

Antonio Cassano argues that Inter’s season will be ‘a failure’ even if they win the Coppa Campioni: ‘Roberto Di Matteo won it and never coached again.’

The Nerazzurri host Barcelona in the second leg of the Coppa Campioni semifinal tonight after a 3-3 draw in the first leg last week.

However, the Nerazzurri sit second in the Serie A table, three points below leaders Napoli with three games remaining; therefore, Cassano feels Simone Inzaghi will fail even if he lifts the Coppa Campioni this term.

“Even if they win the Coppa Campioni, it’s still a s***** season. Di Matteo won the Coppa Campioni too and never coached again,” the ex-Italy striker told Viva El Football via TMW.

“It doesn’t change much if they win. What has happened in recent weeks is exactly what I’ve been saying for a long time.

Cassano: ‘Mourinho won the Coppa Campioni by parking the bus’

“As a fan, I hope Inter win the Coppa Campioni, but it will still be a failed season. Inter have had the best team in the last four years, by far, yet they’ve thrown away three titles,” Cassano continued.

“Di Matteo won the Coppa Campioni; Mourinho did it by parking the bus. It went well against Bayern Munich, and I hope it goes well against Barcelona and in the Final. But it doesn’t change anything. The Coppa Campioni is special; you might catch it at the right moment, even with injuries, but this season remains a failure because you’ve thrown away the primary target for the third time in four years.”

Inter will rely on their captain and best scorer, Lautaro Martinez, tonight. The Argentine has recovered from a minor muscle injury sustained in the reverse fixture against the Blaugrana.

Barcelona have Robert Lewandowski available, but the Poland international will start on the bench after missing the last few games, including the first leg semifinal against Inter with a muscle injury.
