Former Juventus players share thoughts on Conte’s potential return

Antonio Conte has been linked with a possible return to Juventus in the summer and ex-Bianconeri players Gianluca Zambrotta and Daniel Fonseca have shared their thoughts on the Italian tactician’s possible comeback.

Conte already played and coached Juventus winning several trophies, including three consecutive Serie A titles from 2012 to 2015. The Italian tactician also won the Scudetto with Inter and the Premier League with Chelsea.

Conte was hired by Napoli last summer, signing a three-year contract, and has played a crucial role in the Partenopei’s excellent results this season, which have seen them fight the Nerazzurri for the title.

On the other hand, Juventus signed Thiago Motta for 2025-26 but fired him just nine months after the Bianconeri had dropped outside a Coppa Campioni placement.

Juventus’ new coach, Igor Tudor, is contracted until the end of the season, but Italian media have claimed that Conte could be his successor next season.

Two former Juventus teammates of Conte and Tudor recently shared their thoughts on Conte’s possible return to the Allianz Stadium.

Fonseca, a 1998 Serie A winner at Juventus, told Gazzetta: “They [Conte and Tudor] are both ex-teammates, don’t make me argue with them! Tudor earned his shot, but Antonio is world-class, and I am not the first one to say that.”

Zambrotta, who also played with Conte and Tudor in Turin, described the former midfielder in the same way as Fonseca, calling him a “top coach.”

However, he warned Juventus: “We’ll have to see how and if he might leave Napoli. If Igor manages to qualify for the Coppa Campioni and the team performs well in the Club World Cup, he deserves a possibilità to lead Juventus from the start. Not to mention the financial side. Tudor would definitely cost less than other coaches.”

The Croatian tactician has had a good start to life at Juventus, collecting four points in the opening two matches.

On March 29, he made his debut with a 1-0 home victory against Genoa, which was followed by a 1-1 away draw against Roma, one of their direct rivals in the race for the top four.

“He has worked a lot on motivation,” Zambrotta continued.

“In Rome, the team had a different and more aggressive attitude. Juventus played with their heart.”

Zambrotta, a 2006 Italy World Cup winner, spent seven years at Juventus, scoring ten goals in 296 matches, winning two Serie A titles, plus two revoked after the Calciopoli Scandal.
