While negotiating with Jonathan David, Napoli have also held repeated talks in recent days with the entourage of Darwin Nunez, as the Liverpool striker remains high on their wishlist.
The Partenopei are actively seeking a new centre-forward ahead of the upcoming transfer window, with Victor Osimhen expected to return from his loan spell at Galatasaray only to depart permanently.
After struggling to meet expectations following his high-profile move from Benfica to Liverpool in 2022, Nunez has seen his playing time reduced this season under Arne Slot and is now open to reviving his career elsewhere.

Given his relatively young age, Napoli see the Uruguay international as a strong candidate to bolster their attacking line — a view that has prompted sporting director Giovanni Manna to hold multiple discussions with the player’s representatives in recent days, according to Calciomercato.com.
While Nunez is intrigued by the idea of playing at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona and in front of a passionate fanbase, he has also received far more lucrative offers from Saudi Arabia. For this reason, he is taking time before delivering a final decision to Napoli, which is expected in the coming days.
Should they fail to land the 25-year-old, the Partenopei are likely to intensify their pursuit of Jonathan David, having already submitted an offer in an effort to beat out competition from Inter, Juventus, and several other European clubs.
