Scott McTominay won the Serie A title with Napoli as the best player in the league and, effectively, as the best summer signing in Italyโs top flight; so, who will take his spot in 2025-26?
Scotland international McTominay received a heroโs welcome when he arrived in Naples to complete a move from Manchester United less than a year ago, but nobody could expect heโd even go beyond the fansโ expectations at the Stadio Maradona.

McTominay Serie A stats in 2024-25
With 12 goals and six assists in 34 Serie A games in 2024-25, contributing to the first domestic title in his career, McTominay was named the best player in the league for 2024-25, which also means he was the best signing in Serie A last term.
Napoli secured his services for just โฌ30.5m, and the former Red Devil didnโt take long to become a cornerstone under Antonio Conte.
The Partenopei have been one of the most active clubs this summer, so itโs not surprising to see odds on Starcasino showing them as the favourites to win the Scudetto again in 2025-26.
While Inter, Juventus, and Milan are regrouping to reclaim the Serie A crown, another question remains regarding the new season. Who will emerge as the best signing in the upcoming campaign?
For now, new acquisitions can only be judged by their price and previous stats, but only their outings with new clubs will determine whether they can be an asset for the future.
Press Resistance Premium: How Serieโฏ A midfield build-up metrics quietly reshape handicap lines
Although most fans get excited mostly by the purchase of new strikers, the McTominay case proves how midfielders, if used the right way, can actively make a difference in Europeโs top five leagues.
Milan already signed Samuele Ricci from Torino, but the Italian fantasista is expected to remain far away from the opponentsโ goals to provide balance to the Rossoneri squad coached by Massimiliano Allegri. The same is true of football legend Luka Modric, who joined Milan on a free transfer after the end of his contract with Real Madrid.

Inter midfielder Petar Sucic could be one of those reshaping the handicap lines in Serie A, as the Croatian talent has already proved to be a threat in the final third during his time at Dinamo Zagreb, where he finished the previous campaign with five goals and three assists in 26 league games.
Keep an eye on another Croatian talent, new Como signing Martin Baturina, who has joined a team already filled with quality, thanks to the likes of Nico Paz, Jesus Rodriguez and Jaylen Addai.
Last but not least, how can we not mention McTominayโs new Napoli teammate, De Bruyne? The Manchester City legend has completed a free transfer to the Stadio Maradona and is expected to contribute to several goals for the Partenopei.
