The top five most expensive signings in Serie A history all belong to Juventus, but the Bianconeri also have seven of their deals in the top 10.
The 2025-26 summer transfer window ends on September 1 and, to date, Juventus have only made two signings, plus Francisco Conceiçao, who returned to Turin on a permanent deal after a one-season loan spell at the club.
As highlighted by csgame-cz.com, the Old Lady is not the favourite to win the Serie A title this season, but even if their golden era is far away, the Serie A giants are trying to rebuild with Igor Tudor starting the season on the bench and Damien Comolli in the control room.
Juventus no longer have the financial power that allowed them to dominate Italian football for nearly a decade from 2011 to 2020, during which they completed big signings that have made history in Serie A.
Not all of their most expensive signings worked out well, but the transfer fee itself made the deals worthy of a mention.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s transfer in 2018 for €117m was not only a historical deal for the club, but it is still, to date, the most expensive signing ever completed by a Serie A club.
CR7 beat Gonzalo Higuain, who had moved to Juventus from Napoli in 2016, thanks to his €90m release clause.
Higuain ‘betrayed’ Napoli
His move from the Stadio San Paolo (now Stadio Maradona) caused outrage as Juventus and Napoli are big rivals. Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis even accused ‘El Pipita’ of having betrayed the Azzurri.
“Some people say that to speak of betrayal is exaggerated, but I think the opposite because there is a full sense of betrayal in this [Higuain] choice because of the ingratitude shown,” ADL said via Sky Sports.
“Obviously, I have to consider the role played by Juventus, but I expected a different kind of behaviour [from Higuain].
“There was the claus,e so there was no formal impropriety… but the unscrupulous nature of football means there is no respect for sentiment.”
Top 10 most expensive Serie A signings ever
Matthijs de Ligt, now at Manchester United, joined Juventus from Ajax in an €85.5m deal in 2019, becoming the third most expensive signing ever in Serie A, aged only 19.
He’s followed by Dusan Vlahovic, who is still at Juventus (€83.5m) and Arthur Melo (€80.6m).
Ex-Napoli star Osimhen is just outside the top five with his €78.9m transfer fee in 2020, but then there’s another Juventus player, Teun Koopmeiners, who moved to Turin from Atalanta for €58.4m in 2024.
Two old-school signings complete the top 10: Hernan Crespo to Lazio in 2000 for €56.8m and Gigi Buffon to Juventus in 2001 for €52.8m.
