David leaves door open for Juventus and Napoli transfers

Canada international Jonathan David denies agreements with Napoli or Juventus, but leaves a door open for a move to Serie A: ‘I want to get something done before pre-season starts.’

Lille striker David is in a hurry to choose his new club, and both Napoli and Juventus are said to be among the most interested clubs in securing his services.

Corriere dello Sport reported in May that Napoli had reached an agreement with the Canadian forward, while Juventus reportedly offered €6m plus €2m in add-ons; however, David denied having any agreements with either side.

David’s verdict on Napoli and Juventus transfers

“[Napoli] is a club that just won Serie A. And I’m guessing they don’t just want to win Serie A one year and say, ‘OK, we won, that’s it.’ Obviously, it’s a club that’s ambitious, that’s going to play in the Champions,” David told The Athletic.

Speaking about whether he may face more pressure at Juventus than at the Stadio Maradona, David said: “I think anywhere you go, there’s always pressure to perform every week, there is the pressure to keep your spot, pressure from the tifosi, because obviously you have to win every game. There is always pressure anywhere you go.

David opens up about Serie A

“When I watch Serie A compared to, say, the Premier League, the [latter] is just faster tempo, more up and down, faster. And Serie A can be like that, but it’s more tactical. It’s more like a chess game in a way,” the striker continued.

“I obviously want to get something done before pre-season starts so I can get settled and have that pre-season time with my team.

“Anything can happen, you never know what can happen. You just have to be prepared for anything.”

David is available as a free agent as his contract with Lille expires at the end of the current month.

The 25-year-old confirmed in May that he’d leave the club at the end of the season, but a recent report highlighted that his purchase may be as expensive as €34m despite being a free agent.
